The Centre of Bioethics and Emerging Technologies at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2020 and it is delighted to host this conference in partnership with the Scottish Council for Human Bioethics. With rapid advances in genomic editing and ongoing anticipation that Artificial Intelligence will equal or surpass human intelligence, there is a real need to consider the ethics of engendering posthuman persons and in particular what responsibilities we might have for and to them.
Delegate place £20 per day including refreshments and lunch.
Students are free of charge (ID required)
Time: 9.30am to 5.15pm on January 10th – 9.30am to 4.30pm on January 11th.

Update on “Abortion Pill Reversal”.
GMC has responded to our request for clarification, although predictably the response was non-committal. They state that they cannot give specific advice on specific clinical situations but reiterated the need to provide patients with appropriate information regarding all aspects of care proposed to them, including information on risks, benefits and alternative management options.
NICE guidelines on “Termination of Pregnancy”
The consultation period ended on 31st May 2019. The guidelines are currently in the “development stage” with publication of the final document expected on 25th September 2019. CMA views on this…
World Medical Association and Euthanasia / Physician Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia and Physician-assisted suicide were discussed at the recent World Medical Association (WMA) Council meeting in Santiago, April 25th-27th and no changes were made to existing WMA policy.

At our next Council meeting in October 2019, our guest will be Anais Symington from the Teen STAR programme, promoting Sexuality Teaching in the Context of Adult Responsibility. She will inform us of the work of the Teen STAR movement and suggest ways in which the CMA (UK) might provide assistance, within our remit.
Worthwhile film / DVD releases
Two important films with strong pro-life messages were released, against great odds and opposition, in the USA. The films in question are Gosnell, portraying the trial of the late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell and Unplanned, telling the true-life story of former abortionist Abby Johnson and her journey to becoming a major pro-life spokesperson.
